The village of Beynac is set in the "Grand Site of Aquitaine" area, together with 6 neighboring villages awarded for their peculiar architecture. Located ten kilometres from Sarlat, the village of Beynac-et-Cazenac is easily recognisable with its impressive castle.
This was the site of a number of fierce medieval battles between the lords of the fortress, who were the allies of the king of France, and the lords of Castelnaud castle who were allies of the Plantagenets, the English royal family.
This village, built on the cliffs along the Dordogne River, is today listed among the 'Most Beautiful Villages of France'.
